The Future is Kieut

My hamster had babies the other day. I know that she mated in very early January, but the male died shortly after, and weeks and weeks later, she still had no babies. I assumed she wasn’t pregnant after all. I ended up falling in love with a new female hamster – a young and sweet argente who I named Sweet Pea. She was in a wire cage inside of the 20 gallon Long tank that Po (preggers) and Pili (the father’s sister) lived in. I wanted them to get used to each other before setting Sweet Pea free with my girls. Now… Po and Pili had a plastic habitrail type cage inside of the tank – that way each hamster had its own wheel to run on, and tubes and things to play in. Well… I decided to clean out the plastic cage inside the tank and dumped the bedding of that cage into the tank. Immediatey, I saw Po running around frantically with something in her mouth – A baby!!! She had two babies and hid them in the bottom of the cage! Thankfully, she didn’t reject the babies and is still caring for them very well. They just opened their eyes yesterday and cause her lots of trouble as they run out of the nest. It looks like I have a black and an argente. I’m confused. I need to learn more about hamster genetics, because the parents were a black and a blue. I guess they both had argente in them somewhere?
